Being mentally healthy during childhood means reaching developmental and emotional milestones and learning healthy social skills and how to cope when there are problems. Mentally healthy children have a positive quality of life and can function well at home, in school, and in their communities.

Shawnee Public Schools is committed to working with families to ensure their children learn how to be mentally healthy and how to identify warning signs of potential mental health challenges. Each school site has a highly qualified school counselor on staff. The district also provides a Prevention Services Team with the mission of investing in the lives of our students, families and staff through prevention education, mental health support and crisis intervention.
